Using / importing Tapes from a previous backup System (Symantec BackupExec)

Hi.

Can we please gain some help on this issue.

We have installed/Repaced a new Dell Server we are looking to use Veritas Backup Exec 16 to take over the backing up of this whole system.

This new server is replacing an old one which used Symantec Backup.

There are 15 tapes from the previous Symantec system that we would like to use on the new Veritas Backup Exec 16 product but are not sure how we can import, overwrite or re-use them.

Can someone please let us know how we can do this with some step by step guides please.

Thank you

Andy K

Hi Andy,

1. Import them if you want the data on the tapes to be retained, and you want to import the data contained on them into the new BEDB (Backup Exec Database);

2. If you don't want to use the data on them and simply want to reuse the tapes, irrespective of what they contain, then put them into the tape drive/autoloader/library and then erase them all. Bear in mind this deletes everything on the tapes. This places them in the Scratch set, and after creating backup jobs and retention times, they will be pulled in when these jobs run.

Thanks!
