Hello,
I'm having trouble with Backup Exec failing on a VSS error while backing up the System State.
I fully updated Backup Exec to take that out of the equation we are running BE 2012 SBE v14 rev 1798 64bit.
It seems it's looking for a volume that does not exist (anymore?). The full error below;
Completion status:
Job ended: woensdag 24 september 2014 at 19:04:11
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0000352 - The specified volume does not exist. Recreate the volume, and then try the job again.
Final error category: Resource ErrorsFor additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-850
Errors:
BackupV-79-57344-850 - Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on: "System?State". Snapshot technology used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Snapshot technology error (0xE0000352): The specified volume does not exist. Recreate the volume, and then try the job again.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
As a test I ran the monitor tool and the first error that catched my eye was as below;
BEREMOTE: [09-25-14 10:03:41] [11884] 2014-09-25T10:03:41.691 [fsys\ntfs] - INFO: Path [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy51\Program Files\Windows NT\Bureau-accessoires] identified as Profile Compatibility Junction - not crossing

I can provide a full log if needed.
Any help please? I'm not sure what to do next.

Try this KB -
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH136185
Additionally, assign a drive letter to the system reserved partition and recheck.

Further investigation through other posts about a similar issue say a error should be present with VOLUME_NOT_FOUND.
I checked for this specific error in the log and this points to:
BEREMOTE: [09-25-14 10:36:08] [11884] 2014-09-25T10:35:52.229 [fsys\shadow] - Status E_FS_VOLUME_NOT_FOUND (0xE0000352) for object 'System Files'. Faild to resolve volume path name for 'd:\unit4\bin\' in SHADOW::SetSelectedForBackup

It's refering to a volume with letter D:\ but that does not exist on the server.
Would this "d:\unit4\bin\"be the binary path I need to exclude in the KB you provided @VJware ?
Or another way to edit this image path?
Thanks.

Yes, this would be the path to exclude.
Additionally, do you see D:\ under HKLM\System\Current Control Set\Mounted Devices ?

I checked the registry.
D:\ is not present under Mounted Devices. I could only find Mounted Devices under HKLM\System\ though there was no entry under Current Control Set for Mounted Devices.

It still failed to backup, I edited the registry as in the KB and rebooted the server before hand..
Any more ideas please? Im stumped.

Unfortunatly I cannot install the hotfix, since Windows server 2011 is not supported by the hotfix.
I will try the registry entry without the patch.

Can you confirm the following path that the debug log is pointing to:
INFO: Path [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy51\Program Files\Windows NT\Bureau-accessoires]
It still failed to backup, I edited the registry as in the KB and rebooted the server before hand..
Any more ideas please? Im stumped.
