If I have BUE 12.5 installed on the machine and renew the license to 2010, do I have to do anything on the server? I dont want to upgrade yet?

What are the things that I have to make sure that the server is ok?

Nothing, if you purchased the yearly maintenance contract you can still use the old version. But you have the rights and licenses to upgrade to the latested version when you like.

Just make sure you renewed license for the all the agent and options before performing the upgrade. and as it would be an inplace upgrade your confgurationa and data would be intact.

Keeping your maintenance current is important because it continues your access to technical support along with upgrade assurance.  However, for the functionality of the product, once you have purchased BE licensing, it will always function on supported hardware and with supported databases and applications.
