Veritas Backup Exec 10 for Windows & Sony AIT drives

Ryan_Lim

I am just doing a cut-and-paste from an email I sent to support@veritas.com.

Hi,

I have questions about Backup Exec 10 and the Sony AIT (AIT i260/S) drives.

What driver should I use for Windows? Should it be the Sony driver or
the Veritas driver if I use Backup Exec?

I also see something very strange and counter intuitive. At your page:
http://support.veritas.com/menu_ddProduct_BEWNT_view_DOWNLOAD.htm

The first two items have increasing release numbers (i.e., the first is
45, the second, 46), but are posted with decreasing dates. Which is the
latest software I should download?

The other question I have is, why did I get this error message when I
tried to install BackupExecTapeDeviceDriverInstall_277477.exe from
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/277477.htm? The error message reads:

ERROR: Version mismatch.

This version of tapeinst is only compatible with Backup Exec
version 10.0.

I already have Veritas Backup Exec for Windows Servers installed and
running. What is wrong? I have attached the screenshot of the error message.

Please reply promptly,
Thank you,
ryan.

Hello,

Please check whether the device is "tested" by backup Exec with the help of the list below:

If yes then please install latest veritas drivers.

http://support.veritas.com/docs/274348

Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Servers Standalone Drives Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)

Latest veritas drivers:

Document ID: 273887

http://support.veritas.com/docs/273887

If the device is not tested in the hardware compatibility list then please install the latest OEM drivers.

From the page you referred me to (http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/273887.htm), it tells me to proceed to http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/277477.htm.

I have mentioned that I get this error:
ERROR: Version mismatch.

This version of tapeinst is only compatible with Backup Exec
version 10.0.

Before you ask me what version of Backup Exec I run, I run version 10.0. How can it be installed?

I would love to entertain you with a screen capture I have but your forum does not allow me to upload anything.

Hello,

Please check the configuration referring the following technote.

http://support.veritas.com/docs/251561

Note: This is applicable for Backup Exec 10.0.

I hate to break this to you but I haven't even got the drivers to install! Are you reading my comments or are you just giving me "canned" answers that you type off your tech-support cheat sheet?

I am getting rather frustrated at your support system. Since you are from Veritas, please email me privately or give me a contact number so we can discuss this further.

Hello,

As you are getting an error as "Version mismatching" while installing drivers,

We want to know which build of BE v10.0 are you using?

As you have mentioned the link here from where you are trying to download the Veritas drivers mentions the two links to install it.

There is one link which mentions about the Veritras drivers release 45 which has to be used incase you are using BE v10.0 5484.

-- Another link mentions about the Veritas Driver release 46 which has to be used incase you are using BE v10.0 5520.

-- As you are getting version mismatch error, if you are using BE v10.0 5520 and you are installing the driver release 46 and at that time if you are getting an error, then we suggest you to use the Veritas base drivers or the existing drivers.

we hope this will help you.
If you further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

NOTE : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answered and would be moved to answered questions pool.

I am using BE build 5484.

I guess the one I downloaded was 46, which brings me to more questions:
- Why can't your error messages be more verbose? i.e., be more descriptive about the build number it requires.
- Why does Veritas make it so confusing for their customers?

You can be certain, I have never hesitated to contact Veritas about the problems I have with their software.

Hi,

The document http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/277477.htm mentions at the end in the field "products applied" that this technote is applicable to only rev 5520 (10.0)

As mentioned earlier please upgrade to revision 5520 using technote http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/277181.htm and then install driver release 46.
