If I have only one drive on the Windows 2003 Server and I do a full backup of all files, why do I need the Exchange Agent?

Thank you

The Exchange agent is only required to backup a MS Exchange server. If you are trying to backup exchange databases without the agent, you will be unable to restore the server in the event of a failure and may cause database corruption. If you are not backing up exchange with this server, don't buy/install the agent.

Though its not recommended you can do offline back up without using an agent. you need to manually shutdown the services of microsoft exchange and take the backup of the whole drive which includes the exchange required files.

I was wondering about your rotation policy or backup method???

Note: Backing up exchange in offline mode is not recommended by microsoft.

Hello,

Please note that Exchange agent is required to backup the Exchange database.

Please specify the backup details.
Also mention here the procedure which you are using to backup the Exchange database.
