Veritas Update - page cannot be displayed

When I run Tools - Veritas Update on version 10d (Rev 5629 w/Svc Pk 1) for Windows Server 2003 I receive "page cannot be displayed". The browser URL shows "http://shanker.nsmg.veritas.com:8840/" I've reviewed the Discussion Forums and Symantec BE knowledgebase, but see no reference to this issue. Since Symantec has acquired Veritas I'm guessing that the URL is incorrect. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

I tried that address and it doesn't appear to exist!

Correct. I think this is because the link points to an old Veritas URL. It should be pointing to a Symantec URL. I'm hoping that Symantec has an update that will correct the URL, but none of the updates/patches I've seen reference any correction.

The update page should be:
http://softwareupdate.veritas.com

Thanks for your reply. I went to the page you recommended and found that it believes that the Veritas Update Client (VUC) is not installed. Checking Add/Remove Programs proves otherwise. I'm wondering if VUC is the wrong version as the installed version is 1.00.5484, but my version of Veritas BE is 10d, release 5629. If that's not the case then it could be that VUC is corrupt.

In effort to make sure either of the above was resolved I attempted, as recommended by a Veritas tech bulletin, to re-install VUC. However, when I tried to install it I received an error indicating that another version was installed and that I first must uninstall it. When I attempted to remove it I received an error indicating that there was a "Fatal Error during Installation". I searched the Veritas knowledgebase on this error but found no reference. I made sure to stop all of the Veritas services before attempting the uninstall. Any thoughts on how I can get the VUC uninstalled?

Try doing a repair install, you will need to provide the path to the installation files once again.
The VUC version should be: 1.00.5520.

Running Repair yields the following error...

"The file c:\\Veritas Update.msi is not a valid installation package for the product Veritas Update. Try to find the installation package Veritas Update.msi in a folder from which you can install Veritas Update".

The file "Veritas Update.msi" that I have is dated 9/23/2005. The Version is 10.1 and Rev 5629. Also installed is Service Pack 1 and Hotfix #34.

Hi,

This issue occurs if VERITAS Update is not installed or is corrupt on the Backup Exec media server. VERITAS Update is installed by default when installing Backup Exec. To verify that it is installed, check Add/Remove Programs to see if VERITAS Update is installed on the Backup Exec 9.x media server. If it is listed but is not being detected by VERITAS Update, the installation is most likely corrupt.
