Assuming that it doesn't need to connect to a tape drive, is there any downside to running a CASO server in a virtual machine? It's VMware in my case, but it could be Microsoft as well. In this environment all backups run on real (not virtual) managed media servers. The BEDB database is on a separate SQL Server. The CASO server basically schedules jobs and manages the catalogs. I've been trying to figure out a reliable way to recover from failure of the CASO server. Recovering virtual machines is generally pretty straightforward.
