We are regularly getting the following error "The job failed with the following error: When accessing a new tape of a multivolume partition, the current block size is incorrect."

There is no pattern to the failures. We have a week of good backups and then the next week regular failures using the same tapes.

I have reformatted the tapes using NTBackup as recommended in another discussion but it has not cured the problem.

Thanks Amruta

This was the technote (I wrote discussion in error) I was referring to in my opening message.

It seems to work for a week or two for a particular tape and then we start getting failures again so is not a long term solution. How can we cure the problem?
We are running the most up-to-date driver for the tape drive and the complete system is only 2 1/2 months old. We started to have this problem after about three weeks of running Backup Exec.

Thanks Sharvari.

We have carried out a long erase on Friday's tape (which was a new month-end one), which worked successfully. We will see how a regular tape with a long erase works tonight.

I started to work through document 255501 but need clarification. The tape drive (Dell Powervault 100T DAT72) is listed as compatible on the link in 25501 but there are no Backup Exec tape drivers available for Backup Exec 9.1 and Windows Small Business Server when you search the Veritas support website, which is surprising.

The tape driver provider on our server is shown as Certance LLC. Is this to be expected?

Hello,

In case the drive is compatible, it is always recommended to use the Veritas device drivers. As you see Certance LLC, it seems the Veritas drivers are not installed. To answer to your question as to whether it is to be expected, well, in case they are installed, they will be displayed thus.

You can download and install the drivers from the following link:

Title:VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20050115) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only)

Hope tihs helps. In case the problem persists, do write back to the forum. However if we do not receive any update within two business days, this post would be marked ‘assumed answered’ and would be moved to ‘answered questions’ pool.
