Hello James,
Try following the following steps, and let us know the results:
1. Download MDAC Component Checker for version 2.8 from the Microsoft Web site
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8f0a8df6-4a21-4b43-bf53-14332ef092c9&DisplayLang=en
2. Run Component Checker and perform analysis against the selected version (select 2.8 RTM)
The result will display .dll that are mismatched
Important: If a mismatch is detected on the files ODBCBCP.DLL or SQLSRV32.DLL, verify what version has been detected. If Microsoft MDAC Security Patch MS04-003 has been applied, these files will be updated to version 2000.85.1025.0 or later (see reference documents). After the application of this security patch, a Component Checker mismatch is normal based on MDAC 2.8. If the version, size, and date of these files conforms to the Microsoft article, the files should not be replaced with older files from MDAC 2.8 RTM.
3. If multiple mismatched files are found, reinstall MDAC 2.8
