backing up exchange

My backups of Exchange are successful, except for messages like the following: 

Backup- \\EXCHANGE\D: Data
V-79-57344-65033 - Directory not found. Cannot backup directory \Program Files\Symantec\SMSMSE\5.0\Server\bm_ruleset...

I can add the SMSMSE folder to the exceptions list, but is it safe to do this? In other words, should I be getting backups of these files?
