backup exec server is not responding

I had this problem ages, then today i spotted something that noone ever mentioned before. When i actually look at the properties of backup to view the selection of drives to backup, nothing was ticked. I ticked them and selected run now and this worked. if i go in again none are ticked again, therefore this is why my scheduled backup was getting the backup exec server is not responding.
Doesnt suit me to have to manaully run the backup every night, any suggestions for the properties, to hold this information without me having to keep going in and ticking all the drives?

Assuming the solution provided is correct. Also, there is no response from the customer within 2 days from the last reply by Veritas
