can back up remote agent server

Veritas 10.0, Windows Server 2003.

I am trying to create a selecting list and back up drives C and W on a server with
the remote agent installed. When the drives appear under the server all I see is C$ and W$ (not C and W). They are greyed out and when I fly over them the message says "selection of this item is disabled" and lists several reasons for the problem. I have another server running Backup Exec and tried to select the C and W drives and the same thing happens so it appears to be something with the server that has the remote agent (I have other servers using the remote agent and I can select the drives from them fine).

The remote agent server is running IIS and is my WEB/FTP server along with using Symantec SMTP Gateway. I am not sure if that could be causing the problem?

I have verified that the remote agent is installed correctly, I have the correct number of remote licenses, and I have access to the drives on the server. I uninstalled the remote agent and reinstalled it but have the same problem. I have researched this problem and tried other things suggested on the Veritas site but can't figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks.

I noticed you wrote Veritas 10.0... is that BE 10.0 ?

If so... try upgrading to 10.D (10.1) instead... then remove the agent on the server and push it out from the console of BE 10.D (10.1) and see if it works... just a wild guess here... :)

Yeah...BE 10.0. Also I just noticed my subject should read >can't< back up remote agent server. Guess this is what happens in haste!

Thanks.

Well, the best way to solve a problem like that is to upgrade to the latest software... then if it still dosnt work you can call the support and get assistance... otherwise they will only tell you to upgrade anyway... hehehe :)

Hello,

Please check if the Remote agent has been installed correctly on the remote system and its version is same as Backup Exec version(10d).If not then reinstall the remote agent.

2)Add the IP address and Host name of the Remote server to LMHOSTS file and HOSTS file on media server and IP address and Host name of the Media server to LMHOSTS file and HOSTS file on Remote Server. To do this, you will need to locate the lmhosts.sam file and edit it with notepad. Add the target servers name to bottom of the file, and save. This might require a reboot for it to get loaded in to the system.

3)Please check if the Port 10000, which is the default port used by NDMP
(Network Data Management Protocol) is not used by any other application. If it is used by another application, please follow the steps given in the following

Technote:

TITLE: How to change the port that NDMP uses in VERITAS Backup Exec 9.x for Windows Servers
