Dell Poweredge 2800
New Veritas 10 installation...
Windows Small Business Server 2003
Quantum SDLT 320 External Tape Drive (connected to)
Adaptec 39160 Ultra 160 PCI-X card

When I try to backup the job fails with the following error.
e00084f3 - The block size being used is incorrect

I then accessed the support doc http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/190750.htm

When following the steps on the document, I found that when I insert a tape I did not receive the message from Windows Backup nor did I find anywhere in Windows Backup to erase a tape.

I also installed the Veritas drivers using the latest Tapeinst.exe and when I was installing I noticed an error there as well.

This is the first screen after driver install

Finding tape devices
Finding plug and play tape device names
Hardware ID = SCSI\SequentialQUANTUM_SDLT320_________5252
Finding IDE plug and play device instances
Finding SCSI plug and play device instances
Hardware ID = SCSI\SequentialQUANTUM_SDLT320_________4B4B
Hardware ID = SCSI\SequentialQUANTUM_SDLT320_________5252
Finding VERITAS device drivers
Hardware scan complete.

And this is the second screen

Updating VERITAS inf file
Installing VERITAS "0dlttape.sys" for "SCSI\SequentialQUANTUM_SDLT320_________5252"
Installing VERITAS "0dlttape.sys" for "SCSI\SequentialQUANTUM_SDLT320_________4B4B"
Driver load failure 0x800F020B for SCSI\SequentialQUANTUM_SDLT320_________4B4B
The device instance does not exist in the hardware tree.

Installation complete.

So, afterwards I then updated the SCSI card drivers as well.

I have tried every possible resolution I could find.
I tried your support DOC.
Changing tape drive and SCSI card drivers
Switching SCSI channels
12 new (blank)tapes

I also tried this:
VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 10.0 - Device Driver Installer (20050115) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only)
http://support.veritas.com/docs/273887

and this is the message I received:

ERROR: Version Mismatch
This version of device drive installer is only compatible with Backup Exec version 10.0.5520

No luck as of yet..Message was edited by:
