Hello,

Hello,

We need the following rights to the Backup Exec Service Account for Backing up and restoring Exchange:

For exchange backups and restores we require following rights for the Backup Exec Service Account.
1  : Unique name (first 5 letters)
2  : Mailbox Enabled account
3  : Not hidden from the Global Address list
4  : Send as Receive as permissions
5  : Exchange Full Admin
6  : Domain Admin and Local Admin for Exchange if Exchange is not a Domain Controller.

To restore individual public folder messages from tape, you must first duplicate the backup sets that contain the messages to a backup-to-disk folder. You can then restore the data from that folder.

are you saying you cannot take a backup of public folders on a tape and restore it?
the link information provided is confusing.

why does making a duplicate set to backup to disk folder allow a restore from tape?

in the past we used exchange 2003 and setup jobs using the legacy support method for public folders and could both backup and restore them from tape.  This method is no longer supported using exchange 2007 and only grt is supported as you know.  backup to disk folder backups is not an option at this point due to space constraints.

As well the link is for individual messages in a public folder and i also need to know if i can pick a subfolder  of public foders or the whole secondary storage group.

Hello,

Public Folder granular restore data will NOT show up in restore selections if the backup job is written to tape. This is a limitation of MAPI. We are not able to get enough information from Active Directory to associate the Public Folder data with its actual location. This is not a problem with restore selections from backup to disk folders due to the dynamic way we can read the Exchange database using the VFF technology.
