Is their a way to determine the size of a backup based on the selected items before backup begins?

Any idea

you can also enable the "prescan" (in the Tools->options screen).  However, be careful with very large file structures.    Try it, but if you have problems with differential and incremental jobs, change it back to no prescan.

In backup exec 10 and 11d you can right click on the job in the job setup tab and perform a test run. This will determin byte cound "uncompressed"

I have noticed that the 'Test Run' doesn't work 100% of the time when doing a differential because of the needing to compare the archive bit time.
