Did you mean:

more than normal skipped files

Hi,

We have brought a new server and have installed Backup Exec 11d. We
recreated the same backup jobs that existed on our old 10d server but
for some reason lots of powerchute, oracle and sql files are being
skipped which didn't happen with 10d. Is there any explanation for this?

Can you give some examples? It could well be that v11 handles in use file differently than v10 did. Not sure about Oracle but certainly with SQL files, BEWS 10 would automatically exclude several of the SQL files which it knew would be locked, and no entries were listed in the backup log. I would suspect that they may have changed v11's behaviour to actually list those files which have been skipped, since there have been a few people complaining about the v10 method in the past. If you can confirm which SQL files you're getting errors about which you didn't previously we should be able to confirm that one way or another.

Sorry if it looks alot, On the sql server it's mainly files on the C:\ drive. There are some SQL files in program files\micorosoft sql server\mssql which aren't backing up.

Thanks for your help

Kind regards

OK, so much for my theory then. Most of the files are not ones used by SQL or Oracle, so unless v11 has a much bigger list of known files which will always be in use it's not what I thought.

Do you still have access to your old backup server to compare the backup jobs? If you do, try having a look at the old one and going into the text view (since it's easier to see the list than with the GUI), and then see if the old job had a load of exclusions listed in it, in case someone had already gone through the job and excluded the folders which were always failing.

The other possibility is, did you have the AOFO installed on your old v10 installation, and if so have you not got it installed on this installation?

Hi

Thanks again, We did compare the old selection list to the new and as far as we can see they have the same exclusions. I don't think we had AOFO on our old server. Would this be listed under the Tools->licence keys and installation ?

Thanks for your help.
