not finding media in tape drive

Hi,

I am using a sony AIT sdx-450v tape drive with backupExec 10 and windows 2003SP1. When i insert a tape in the drive, backup Exec does not show that it has found a tape. Does anyone know why this might be???

W3K SP 1 fully patched-
BU Exec v10 sp1
SQL
Dell poweredge2800

New instalation of BU Exec

Media in drive tape will not refresh in BU Exec devices manager.
if tape is manully ejected, it still shows as active
if tape is ejected through BU exec interface it will show "None", when you inset a new tape, it still shows "NONE".

if I stop all BU Exec services, and restart, proper tape shows but then goes back to the non refresh functionality.

When you change tapes, you need to inventory the drive to tell Backup Exec to read the new tape header

Does this also include jobs that require additional tapes but refuse to recognise new blank media and keep spitting out the tapes?
