serial number issues when upgrading from v9 to10

up until recently we were running Veritas backup exec 9.x with no issues, however we needed to install the SQL back agent and were advised that this will only run in 10.x

for some reason we had already purchased the Veritas v10 licenses a long while ago but due to some issues with it not installing on our SBS box we had to stick to v9...

Now we have installed v10d onto a seperate box (which also hosts SQL2005) but the old licenses we had do not seem to register?

is there a way of using these old serial numbers or getitng symantec to issue "updated" serial numbers? I'm guessing that as the old product was taken over by symantec, the SNs were incompatible?

any ideas? or do we need to fork out 400 for new SNs?

Thanks

Nope. v9 serials are not valid on v10x you need to buy new ones. Symantec may no longer be selling v10 (v11 has been out for about four months now). You should be able to find some on EBay or one of the other auction sites.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the reply. I understand that v9 SN's will not work, however, we purchased backup exec 10 under the Veritas name a while ago, but due to certain issues were not able to install it so we still have the V10 SN's..

are these old V10 SN's not transferable to the Symantec product?

thanks

Tej

Sorry for the misumderstanding

Yes, the v10 serials you purchased from Veritas should work. "only the name has changed" as they say.Message was edited by:
