sql files not restored (or even on tape)

I had a hard disk crash and had to do a complete system recovery.  All seemed well until SQL 2005 wouldn't start.  It said the file \program files\microsoft sql\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\data\master.dbf was missing.  Not only was that missing, but the database I've got months in developing is also missing.  It doesn't seem to be on any of my backup tapes either.  Why wouldn't 10d backup my SQL .dbf files?  I am so screwed Smiley Sad

As of v9.0, BackupExec used "Active FIle Exclusion" to bypass Exchange, Notes, MSSQL and Sharepoint files during the flat file portion of the backup, in order to get rid of the "in use - skipped" messages  without any mention of this in the job log

To backup MSSQL databases you need the SQL Agent and to include the databases in the backup selections

If you  were not doing database backups, you are indeed well and truely SOL
