standalone to Autoloader problem HELP!!!

Chad_Griffith
Not applicable
We recently updated our external tape drive from a stand alone to an Hp StorageWorks DAT 40X6 DDS4 Autoloader.

Our backup job each night uses 2 tapes. The autoloader automatically goes from tape 1 to tape 2, but backkupexec waits for a manual response before it will continue to the next tape. Do we need to reinstall our backup exec software and change some options so the software knows we have an autoloader?? Thanks in advance for your response.

How is overwrite protection set? Full/Partial/None?
Is the job set to write to the loader in general or just to the tape drive?Message was edited by:

Hello,

As asked in the previous reply, you can check the Overwrite protection period as well as the Append period. Also have you configured media sets and are directing the job towards a particular media set?

How many slots does the autoloader have? Refer to the following technotes which will help you understand the concept of OPP and AP and how backup exec picks a tape? The second technote will suggest ways to create partitons which can be used conveniently to make backup exec choose specific tapes for backup. Here are the links:

Title: An explanation of the "Overwrite Protection Period" and the "Append Period" http://support.veritas.com/docs/237374

Title: How to partition and manage an autoloader (robotic library) using Backup Exec 8.x, 9.x, and 10.0
Also check the following:

How to partition a loader and still be able to target a specific drive to be used for a backup operation

Also check for alerts related to media in the alerts tab.

If the problem persists, do write back to the forum with details.
