unable to create selection list

I am currently running ver 10 and have some tapes made by ver 9 from another server. I first inventory all 3 tapes and then run a catalog. If prompts and reads all 3 tapes. The final byte count is accurate and I can see all drives , directories and files in the restore selection window.

When I run the restore I receive the error "unable to create selection list" This occurs on any drive or directory.

I have followed the process in Doc ID 279681 3 times which addresses corrupt catalogs.

Can you restore the files from these tapes on the original backup exec v9 server?

Can you run a restore of a backup that was originally run on the backup exec v10 server?

I doubt it will help but you can try stopping the BE services, rename the catalog directory, restart the BE services. This will re-create the catalog directory. Run an inventory on all tapes and a catalog again. Then try the restore.

I no longer have the Ver 9 server. When it was operational, I was able to restore from the tapes made on it. I can't say that I tried one on this specific tape set. Yes, I can restore a backup from a backup tape made on the ver 10 server.

I may try your suggestion on the catalog directory.

I tried renaming the Catalog directory and redoing the inventory and catalog. Same results:unable to create selection list

Cool, that tells us a bit more. Check out this link:

I know it's for v9.0, but maybe there's the same issue with v10????

Hi,
You got exactly the same problem I had a week ago!

http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?threadID=54513&tstart=285

The difference is that you got response to your question ;)

As you can read from the link above, I solved the problem by upgrading to BE 10d! Maybe that will work for you too!

FYI! I tried the same solutions posted here, they did not solve the problem!!Message was edited by:

What version of 10 are you running?

I had problems restoring v8.6 tapes on my v10 build 5520. When I upgraded to v10d build 5629, I was able to restore tapebackup from v8.6 again!

I upgraded to v10d build 5629 and that fixed the problem. I missed the V10d UPGARDE AS i WAS LOOKING FOR UPGRADES UNDER 10.0 rather 10.d

thanks to all who repsonded!
