Can Collections/Migrators be disabled after they are enabled?

Hi,

I have a question related to Collections/Migrators. Once we enable them and cab are created, later for some reason if we decide against it and would like to disable it, can we? and are their any limitations?

Regards,

Saqib

No, you cannot disable them totally but you can increase the age at which items are put in the cab files to like 99 years.

Prior to EV 8 there was an Uncollect.exe that would remove the items from the cab file, but in EV 8 and above I have heard that this is part of the EVSVR utility.

Some older information on collections but worth a read Article URL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH56891

I also wrote an article on collections here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/es/articles/how-collections-and-sparse-collections-work and I completely agree with Tony one suggestion you might hear is to set the start and end collection times to be the exact same time so it literally has zero seconds to run, this is a bad idea because the same collections process that puts items in to cab files also deletes archDVS files
