Changes in the "Shortcut Content" to EV Mailbox Policy not taking effect...

Hello

I Have made changes to my EV 7.5 Mailbox policy-> Shortcut Content->Shortcut Body.

I want to use a customized shortcut including 100 charcters. I've made the changes,

restarted the "Mailbox Archiving Task" and syncronized the mailboxes but the change will not take effect....

I would be most grateful for any idea on how to solve this.

After you sync your mailboxes you will need to archive an item. This change will not effect items that have been archived.

Hi Jimbo2 and thanks for your answer.

I have archived several new items after the policy change but without success.

Even rebooted the EV server and the mailclient after editing the policy.

Then archived an item and removed the archiveflag (A) on the item in the vault.

Is this all clients or just one or two.

The reason that I am asking is that EVPM may have been used on the mailboxes that are having a problem and they may be read-only.

Verify the behavior exist on a newly enabled user.

Also,

If you press the crtl-shift then click on one of the vault ICONs a screen will appear. There will be a box that says something like 'Advanced' (I cannot remember). Anyway copy those settings from the screen and post them.

One more thing.

When you sync the user do not sync all users because the sync will queue and go to the A6 MSMQ. This is a low priority queue. Instead run  a direct sync against the mailbox to get visual feedback.

1. Go to the mailbox task

2. Click on the sync tab

3. Then choose list the users.

4. Choose the users that you are working on.

5. Click OK.

Verify that the screen displays a successful synchronization.

Could you this using a new, clean Testmailbox (i.e. just create a new mailbox and enable it for archiving)

Hi again, Jimbo2 ! (and MichelZ)

Made a break for the weekend, hope you had a nice one too.

This is what I've done:

Created a new testMaillbox Policy with my prefered settings

to use in my created  Provisoning Group.

Created a new testuser (Loke) who is member of that PG and enabled his mailbox.

Restarted the "Mailbox Archiving Task" and syncronized only Lokes mailbox

Loke loggde on to his mailbox and recieved his welcome message.

Loke archived a message and the archive was backed up.

I expected that the shortcut content would show me the first 100 characters of the archived message but I'm afraid it did not...

This sounds like a PG issue:

Could you please make sure that the new Provisioning Group has the "1st Rank", so it is on top?
Provisioning Groups are processed in sequence, and as soon as one Policy is applicable, the others won't be processed anymore.

So if you have a Default Policy which targets the whole Exchange Organization as the first policy, others will never apply because the first one applied to all.

You can define the Policy Ranks by Right clicking on "Provisioning Group" and chosing "Properties".

Check the provisioning group as MichelZ indicated. Verify that the group that you have the test user in is on the top.

Changed the "Rank" of the PG and its now on top with #1

It didn't help with the problem :(

I can change any other propertie in the policy and it nicely takes effect.

It's only the config with "Message characters to include" that refuses to work....

So, let's try further.
I just tried it in my Test Environment, what I did was this:

- Created a Mail Message with > 100 Chars
- Set the Shortcuts to: "Customize" -> 100 chars, no attachments
- Let the Archiving Task run in report mode (update hidden message)
- Let the Provisioning Task run
- Let the Mailbox Sync Task Run
- Archived the Mail Item
- Backed up the Item in the Store
- After Clicking the item serveral times back and forth, it changed the Shortcut to those 100 chars.

Of course, those 100 chars are only in the preview pane, as if you double click, you will get the full item.

Could you try it exactly like this?

If this does not work, I'd suggest to open a Case at Symantec.

As far as I can see, the only thing different I did was following your advice on:

- Let the Archiving Task run in report mode (update hidden message)

is that it then, to update hidden messages ?

This could have done the trick, yes.
As many settings are stored in the hidden message, and this is only updated once an archiving run was started either in report or "normal" mode.
