Client Driven PST-Migration traffic flow

Ching-Yoong

Hi, The following are the scenario for my questions:

EV 10

User's mailbox in Exchange 2003 server, access mailbox via Outlook 2003 SP3 on Windows XP SP3.

User's currently has their PST files located within the homedir on the file server that is mapped as M:\ drive on their PC.

We will enabled Vault Cache + Virtual Vault for all users where all items within EV archive will be available on user's PC in the Virtual Vault. No shortcut creations within mailbox.

During the PST locator task, it can still detect the PST files for the user on the file server as homedir is mapped as M:\ on user PC.

My questions is on the network traffic flow when we perform Client Driven PST-Migration:

-Is it going to transfer the 10MB chunk directly from the file server to the EV Server(PST Holding)?? or it got to go File Server->User's PC->EV server??

-How about the copy into the Vault Cache on the PC? Is it going to copy that 10MB chunk into vault cache from the file server at the same time?? Or the vault cache has to get the data via Synchronisation to the EV server VS??

Thanks,

Ching-Yoong

Hi

Have a look at this whitepaper:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/white-paper-pst-migration-enterprise-vault-80-part-...

- It will transfer the 10 MB chunk: File Server -> User's PC -> EV Server

- It will load the 10 MB into Vault Cache as well on the same time. Vault Cache will NOT have to synchronize this data from the EV Server

Cheers
