I'm currently working on a design that involves two Exchange servers in two different sites, site A and site B. The main reson for the Exchange server in site B is to provide access to old mails if the WAN link between site A and site B goes down. Mailflow can wait, access to existing mails can't.
Now in terms of archiving, the same requirements apply, hence two EV servers would be needed.
However, I am uncertain if this scenario calls for two completely separate directories or if it can be designed with one or perhaps two sites. I am aware that archiving can not take place if the directory is unavailable and that is OK, but access to archived items should not be disturbed by a failing link between the sites.
It is also likly that fileserver archiving will be implemented in the future so if possible I really would like to have only one EV directory.
