Hi,

Can anybody tell me if Enterprise Vault File System Archiving will be compatible using SQL Server Workgroup 2008R2 as the database?

If its not listed in the compatibility list than its not supported by Symantec.

OK so...
If its not listed, its not supported, doesn't mean that it won't work, just means it wasn't tested with EV and not QA'd, so if you have any SQL based issues and call in a case, this may be flagged and may be asked to move it to a Standard installation to see if it works.

There are some limitations of Workgroup edition.
Mainly that it will only use 2 Cores maximum and 4GB of memory maximum, so if you have a Quad Core or more type of machine with more than 4GB of memory, those resources will not be utilized

Also if you plan on using FSA reporting or operations reports through SQL Server Reporting Services, you will not be able to use them because Workgroup edition, like Express and Web editions do not allow custom datasources that EV sets up when you deploy reports

That being said, it does not have any database size restrictions like Express does (Express only supports a 10GB database, which you will more likely than not exceed), workgroups maximum database size is 524PB

Based on this technote, Workgroup edition does at least meet the minimum memory and CPU requirements

It doesn't even meet the base specs required by Enterprise Vault (8GB RAM for SQL) so im not surprised it isn't listed.

I should add, having just seen the post by Alex, that the base SQL spec was raised (doubled) in EV10. It meets the base spec for older versions of EV.

Yup, its good for test environments, but would never recommend it for production. I mean honestly it will work, just won't work very well...also the document was from 2010, so just around the Ev9 time frame
