What happens when you make an index volume offline?
If there is pending items to be indexed for that index volume, what happens to those?
What happens when you archive more item that are destined for that index volume?
Many Thanks

hmm...what is the source for this archve? File System, Journal, Mailbox??
Is the entire Index 35GB or the particular volume you are having an issue with?
honestly though, if the support tech you are working with can't resolve it request an escalation to the next level of support. It isn't good to have support telling you to do one thing and then having folks on the forum here telling you do another, the dual efforts can actually hamper getting your issue resolved.

Will if the index is offline nothing will be added to it. Items are still archived just not indexed.
Can I ask why you are setting an Index offline?

those index items will be queued and grow in SQL until the index volume is available. Like Tony said, what's reason for the index volume to be offline?

Problem with a specific index volume. Lots of pending item, but nothing is getting indexed in that volume. If we run Sync Task, nothing happens for that specific index volume. Task just stays inactive although index admin task processes other subtasks. Same with rebuild or verify. Just wondering how can i open a new index volume for the same archive?

Well setting it offline won't open a new volume. You will need to sort out what is going on with that particular Index.

Well, symantec tech support has re-inatalled indexin twice and not really been able to sort out this issue! Can we just delete the index volume and rebuild? It has 35GB index though.

Tony is right....It's time for you to push the escalation to Advanced TSE at least or even Backline at Symantec. :)
BTW, have they done all the usual like dtrace etc?

if it says inactive its most likely the administration tasks schedule isn't set properly, or you are outside of the schedule, you can always do a run now, until the task goes in to Processing mode

Index Admin task is Scheduled for 24 hours all days, also tried run now, no luck :(
