EV 8.0 SP3 Virual Vault

Hi All - Currently using EV 2007 no SP , single EV server , 1000 users, exchange 2007 ,offline vault enabled , looking to upgrade to 8.0SP3 - I like the look of the virtual vault and the fact it just looks like a pst to the users , i have reviewed the product  demo but i have a couple of questions please :

Once both server and client at 8.0 SP3 and virtual vault is enabled what happens to all the users shortcutted emails - I am presuming they will stay and anything added to archive after enabling Virtual Vault will look like "normal pst style" emails ?

If the above is true can users shortcuts be converted so their complete archive view looks the same when using Virtual vault (ie not a mixture of shortcuts and virtual vault ) ?

With virtual vault if you delete an email using keyboard delete key does this delete the email from vault ....or do you still have to use the EV addin  "delete from vault " button to do this ?

I am looking to update server first to 8.0 sp3 - will the users notice any difference  in vault operation (they all use offline vault ) once the server is upgraded and before i can deploy the new client )...looking for confirmation that the users can operate as they have been , wont notice any differences that the server version has changed and once the new 8.0 sp3 client depoyed they will get new features and be able to start using virtual vault

thanks

1. what will happen to the shortcuts?
They will remain and shortcuts will get created to whatever the policy is set to, if you want to delete all shortcuts, you can, if you want to stop creating shortcuts, you can
but if the policy is set to create shortcuts, its no different than ev2007

2. what happens when you delete an item?
Depending on the permissions you assign in the desktop policy, if you set it to allow, then it will delete the email from the cache and sync that deletion request to the ev server and it will go in the ev dumpster (if enabled)

3. Users with EV2007 + offline vault
After you upgrade, users will be able to use their offline vault as they always have done. no one will notice the server has been upgraded at all
except if you enable Update Shortcut Locations in the policy, then users will start to see that their archive explorer reflects where their shortcuts are within outlook

After you upgrade the client, the existing offline vault data will become "read only" and the new items will go in to the new vault cache method

JesusWept2....thanks for the clarification

what will the user experience be if you have shortcuts and Virtual vault enabled -- is virtual vault actually a separate view from the shortcut view so can you chosse which way you want to use vault or if both are enabled they work together ?

thanks again

they actually work independantly, its like having shortcuts but using archive explorer in 2007
except this time, rather than using AE to see your archive structure and only your archived items, you now have a virtual vault which resembles a PST file
you can drag items and move them around (if your permissions are set) you can drag items from your inbox or PST in to virtual vault and they will upload (if the policy allows you to)

you can also connect other peoples archives in virtual vault if you have permissions set up through Exchange or manually in the vault admin console

but really the shortcuts act independantly and really dont function any differently than if you had EV2007 + offline vault
if your vault cache is set up to download all items, then when the user is offline they can double click the shortcuts and it will open from the vault cache

However one important thing to note is that Vault Cache (new Offline Vault) and Virtual Vault are fairly independant of each other but they work well together
for instance,, you can download the last 6 months of archived items in vault cache, but virtual vault will show your entire archive.
however when you click an item that isnt in your vault cache, it will tell you its not downloaded to the cache and that you will have to click a link to view the full item which it will then download from your online archive
