Hello,
We have an exchange server, I believe we are currently running and Exchange 2003 server, but we also have an exchange 2008 server as well. From what I understand, the Exchange 2003 server is our current primary email server. Here we are using the Symantec Enterprise Vault. We're currently pushing "Symantec Enterprise Vault Outlook Add-in-en.msi" via GPO, which I believe is version 9.x.
However, our help desk has had numerous calls from users advising that they are being prompted for their username and password when trying to open archived email via Outlook. The Outlook Webmail feature works fine, but the Outlook SW installed on the client machine pops a dialog requesting their credentials. They enter them and they can access the email without issue. These may be pre-9 clients, but I cannot confirm at this time.
Anyone experience this?

I think your solution is probably covered in one of the scenarios in this technote.

I would lean to this one:
Scenario 4 - The DNS Alias is not listed under IE (Internet Explorer) Security - Local Intranet
If the Enterprise Vault Server (Computer name or DNS Alias) is not listed in IE as a Trusted Site or Local Intranet, IE will request authentication before opening the requested page.
Solution:
1. Add the http path(s) of the Enterprise Vault server to the Trusted Sites list within the IE where the request is being performed.
2. Open IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security - Local Intranet - Sites
3. Add the Enterprise Vault server names to the sites list.
Note: This can also be set 'globally' to the within the Mailbox Archiving Policy, under Advanced - List setting from: "Outlook" (or "Desktop") - Add server to Intranet Zone
