EV10.0.2 + Outlook 2007SP3 > Event 3432

Hello,

Were're facing for the second time the event 3432 (description below). This block archiving on E2010 and requires restart of EV services.

...

One or more errors occurred during the creation of a profile to connect to an Exchange Server.

Targeted Exchange Server: xxx
Mailbox: SMTP:xxx@xxx.net

ConfigureMsgService failed with the following errors:

Out of memory error has occurred for the following connection points:
xxx.net
xxx

This indicates that the maximum number of connections has been consumed on this Enterprise Vault Server.

...

Our env. is EV 10.0.2 + Outlook 2007 SP3 (+ registry value as indicated in  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952295) with E2003 and E2010 targets

Based on this articles

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH139751

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH129173

I should apply this hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2512788

but this one seems only related to Outlook 2007 sp2. What is the best action for this  point?

Another workaround would be to modify the profileexpire registry as indicated here http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH49069 but seems not related to EV v10.0.2.

Many tx for your feedback.

Hello Zenworks2001,

In the error message, what Exchange server is being reported: EX2003 or EX2010? for EX2010 server, the DS server key should be pointing to the CAS servers but for EX2003 should be the Windows GC/DC. The MS KB 2512788 should be installed to increase the MAPI connections. Also, have you checked this technote?

Windows 2008 domain controllers restrict Name Service Provider Interface (NSPI) connections which can cause Enterprise Vault (EV) archiving tasks to fail
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH73507

How many archiving tasks do you have in the Enterprise Vault server?

just as a matter of interest, how many Exchange Servers and how many users do you use?

Typically you want a maximum of 32 MAPI connections.
It's not just the archiving task that uses a mapi connection but PST Imports, PST Exports, Vault Cache synchronizations, people manually archiving and restoring , OWA usage etc

typically an EV server should really just have at most four archiving tasks with 5 connections each,
that gives you 20 being used at any one time just for archiving/synchronization, and that shouldn't be in constant use. and then you have the overhead of 12 extra for things like PST migrations, imports, exports etc.

The article you quoted with the out of memory is typically for the Attachments or too many recipients, but thats not what you're seeing here

Hi all,

Event 3432 is reported for E2003 and E2010. Here's a detailled list of EV/tasks.

 EV1:

  • 4 tasks E2010 (~2700 single MBX)
  • 2 tasks E2003 (~1700 single MBX)

EV2:

  • 3 tasks E2003 ( ~500 group MBX)
  • 2 PFs tasks E2003

Note: event 3432 is ONLY observed on EV1.

Reason why I've not implemented "KB 2512788" is because this one seems only related to Office2007SP2 but also because it's not indicated in the compatibility charts. The only KB mentionned is KB952295 (with recommanded value 0xFFFFFFFF). This one has been installed and deployment scanner indiques Outlook version is Ok.

I was aware of the technote concerning NSPI and we take into account this point.
