Enterprise Vault 6 - Export to PST

PracticalLaw

Hello,

We are wanting to move a lot of old archived mail out of Enterprise Vault back into our Exchange server. (Via fist exportnig to PST)

The Exchange server that initally did the archive has since been decommisioned (Exchange 2003) so there is currently to archiving taking place at all.  It is all legacy mail 4-5+ years old.  Our new Exchange server is 2007 and has not been added to EV at all.

I have added the option "RestoreToPSTOption = ALL" into the webapp.ini file and I can see the option to archive to PST when using http://EV_Server_Name/EnterpriseVault/search.asp - however the operation for the restore fails.

There are still 2 fields for the "Exchange server" and "Mailbox alias" which I thought would not be used when simply exportign to  aPST, but I guess they actually are?

Anyone have any ideas how I can get this to archive out to a PST without having the Exchange server on EV?

EV Server details:

OS: Windows Server 2003 SP2

Enterprise Vault Version:  V6.0

Many thanks

oh and just to follow up on that, remember that the exports, shopping baskets etc through the webapp aren't designed to export huge amounts of items, so if you're trying to add thousands, it will pretty much fall over on any restore operation

Also when you do the restore its not going to keep the original folder structure, it will just shove everything in to a single \Restored Items\ folder i believe... where as the PST Export through the VAC will keep the folder structure in place

You could use the Export Archive in the VAC?

Did you try putting in a different exchange server name?

I think it would be helpful to know what the error is really, either in the event logs on the EV Server or what outputs you get from the browser search etc...

It could be something as simple as the directory you are specifying doesn't exist or can't be reached on the EV server

So if you do an Export to C:\MyPSTFiles\ .... it will export it on the server to C:\MyPSTFiles\, not your machine and if the directory doesn't exist, it won't work, and similiarly if you try \\myPC\c$\myPSTFiles\ and the EV Admin doesnt have access to your C:\ Admin share, it will also fail.

You could dtrace w3wp and migratorserver for some more clues or information as to whats going on

Or if you don't want to have to access the EV Server itself each time, you could install the Vault Admin Console on your machine and initiate the exports there, however again, when you specify the output directory it has to exist on the server, not your machine
