How to move multiple EV servers to new servers.

Hi,

I have a small question regarding how to move multiple EV servers to new Windows servers? Perviously, I have moved a lot of single EV server environments, but not multiple.

I have always followed this article for moving single EV server:

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH55377

But, I am a little bit unsure about the procedure to move second server which is not the directory server.

After binary installation and copying everything over, updating DNS alias, should I go for "Add this server to existing..." or "as a new server installation" while running config wizard?

Thanks

Hi Gert.

I contacted support. They suggested me to go for "as if this were a new installation" option.

Step 13 from this technote: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH55377

Once the SQL server information is entered the configuration process will detect the existence of an original installation and will repair the database service to point to the new server.

I will be working on this tomorrow.

Hello Gill,

As this is a server you are adding to an existing site, I would opt for 'add server to existing'.

Hi Gert,

Thanks for quick reply.

OK, so first go for directory server with "New installation..."

and then go for "add server to existing" for the second server.

right?

Hi gill,

Well, it depends on how you actually move the servers. Are you adding new servers, then performing an USL (Update Service Location) to fail over the services and tasks?

Or are you replacing the servers, using the same alias, but a different computername?

Did you see: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000006120 ?

I've been through some replacement excercise last year, and we installed the new servers in the existing site as 'dr-server'. This ment we added the new servers to the existing site. We then copied over the data, and the indexes. when all was in sync, we changed the aliasses, ran USL, and when all was confirmed to be working well, we removed the old servers from the site.

Re-reading your questions, I think (...) you need to choose 'add to existing' for the 2nd server, but not sure anymore. I currently have no test-environment available, otherwise I could try this myself.

Maybe a call to support can help?

The article you refer too does state to select 'new installation'...
