Impact on EV after increasing CPU on VM Machine.

Hi Folks

I have an EV installation which is a VM machine running on ESX environment. Currently the VM machine is configured with 1 CPU and 4 gb ram. I want to increase the CPU's to 4.

Question is how will EV react to this? Will it automatically recognise and take advantage of additional CPUs or it will continue as if there is only 1 CPU?

Is there any extra configuration required for it to recognise additional CPUs?

Any guidance on this matter will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Raj

Hi,

no additional configuration is needed.

Please check (independent from your hardware configuration) that you have at least four index locations available. Best practice is eight.

With kind regards,

I dont believe EV is fully Multithreaded anyway so no matter how many CPU's you throw at it you will not get full use of all the processing power. So unless ESX will make a difference and help it make use of the extra processors i dont think it will help much

We are awaiting for the 64Bit version of the app to come out so we can make full use of modern server power.

No addtional configuration is required :)

By the way, it should be 8 indexing locations now and possbile, split them up to different spindles as Indexing is quite I/O intensive as well.
