Lotus Domino and EV 8sp2 error via webmail?

So the environment.

gateway is lotus domino 8.0.2, EV 8sp2.  rest of the domino environment runs 8.5...

so this just started a couple of days ago.  i get the following error on every archived email in every mailbox...

Couldn't find design note - ev_Start [/EV/EV_whatevertemporaryfilenameatthetimeishere/messageidstring]

access via client is ok.  access via EVDominoSearch (via web) is ok.  access via domino web access is NOT ok.  

any one run into something like this before...?  curious what could have changed on the temp mailfile designs the last few days to have this effect?

any help would be greatly appreciated.  thanks!

I am not a dominio guy and very little experince with ev and dominio but I know that another customer had the same issue and it was resolved by replacing design of the mail file with the EV_mail8.ntf template. What exactly caused it I have no information on.
