New MAC OSX ver 10.6.9 computers cannot unarchive jpegs.

We have been using Ent Vault for about 3 years now.  We are on version 9.02 currently.

We have a Windows file server that is set to have all its jpegs archived into our Ent Vault.

Since we updated our MAC users to OSX ver. 10.6.8 they have not been able to double click on archived files and have them open.  We've tried copying and pasting and dragging them into applications but nothing works until a Windows users goes in and unarchives the files.

Users with older MACs that are power pc based have no problem in double clicking archived files on the shares and having them open correctly.

the error they get from the new MACs are "The file can not open" "It may be damaged or using a file format that preview doesnt recognize"

Is there any information on how to fix this problem.

Do you have Intel Mac systems prior to 10.6.9 that were working OK? I'm a little surprised you had everything working OK as Mac systems will typically mass-recall all the archived files on a Finder browse operation. We worked with Group Logic to produce a solution to overcome this problem:

Of course, if you had thumbnails and previews turned off then the mass-recall would not happen.

Since 10.6.7 Apple have introced a bug in SMB which prevents archived files from opening correctly which is what you are seeing. This is Apple bug 10836961. See more information here:

You can carry on using EV FSA, but you will need to use AFP protocol with ExtremeZ-IP from GroupLogic. The bug is not in AFP. I would request that you log your issue with Apple and quote that bug number. The more customers requesting a fix, the more likely we are to get one.

i'm looking at the compatibility charts and this does not appear to be a supported configuration

(page 59 where it says client access)

Just curious, are you using Group Logic for Mac access to the file systems?

No.  we never used Grouplogic on our old MACs that still work.  From looking at the compatibility chart I guess I can assume that are new MACs arent supported.  I guess well need to find a different solution.
