Solved: OWA 2007

Hi,
I have a CAS 2007 server (no mailbox role installed). I have configured OWA following the documetation. I have EV 7.5. My issue is that no EV icons are appearing in OWA 2007. Also I cannot open anything from the vault. Any ideas?

After many hours of trobleshooting using MS kn articles and uninstalling/reinstalling IIS/CAS roles I was left with a scenario that I had to rebuild the server as I could not get the IIS7 role to reinstall and it was quicker to rebuild than troubleshoot any further.
The issue was deffo down to IIS and the EWS folder, but I felt I had exhausted all attempts at fixing this issue
Once I rebuilt and added the EV extensions all worked ok for me

Hi Patrick,

We need to seperate out this issue. Not being able to open items is different than buttons not appearing. I would suggest we look to resolve the buttons not appearing first and then move onto opening of archived items.

If not can you gather and post the log, as described in this aritcle. You do this by setting the value below to true in the Web.Config file.

Also are you using any proxy servers? Do the buttons not appear internally as well as externally?
Is the CAS Server, Mailbox and EV Server all on the same LAN?

Have you installed the Extensions on the CAS only, or on the server which has the mailbox role, too?

Thanks Don,
We are after getting a license for EV8 SP2. So as my EV 2007 install is still more or less default I am going to snap shot my server and inplace upgrade to EV 8 and see how that goes :)

Any chance that you are running Exchange 2003 Backend Servers?
You would have to install the 2003 Extensions there, too.

Hi Don,
I have gone thru ur article thanks and I think all checks out ok. There is one point u mention "4: Check that WebDav has been enabled along with.NET Framework. This is located in IIS Manager\Web Service Extensions" where do I check this in IIS7? I have now installed version 8 of EV. My setup is 2 x cas servers and the backend is a exchange 2007 ccr cluster. I have the cas servers load balanced with F5 load balancer I connect to them using https://webmail.domain.com. I have only installed the extensions so far on one cas server. I test by connecting directly to this cas server using its fqdn https://htcas1.domain.com.

The Outlook client is working fine for accessing the vault and managing, only issue is with OWA
Yes all servers are on the same lan.

Hi,
I have also now tried the following..

Unistalled EV OWA software
restore my iis to original state from backup
reinstalled EV OWA software

I didnt get any errors, but still no icons and cannot open vault stubs

Hi Don,
The EV extensions are working on my second CAS server so it must be some issue with IIS7 on my first CAS server. I think I will try re-create the virtual directories and then attempt the install again

Hi,

Are you still having the issue where one cas works and one does not ? is so the obivious thing to do is compare all the roles and features between both servers and then compare all the settings for these features/roles.

Have you checked that on the EV server > IIS settings > Directory security settings > IP restrictions, are both CAS servers IP addresses are granted access.

Yes I am still having the same issue. I have been going thru everything. I have no IP restictions on the EV Server IIS.....
I have been looking at the following article http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/321015.htm and the part where it says

Issue:
- Open IE
- Copy the following line to IE:
https://localhost/ews/exchange.asmx
- This link fails

Change link to the following:
https://10.20.30.40/ews/exchange.asmx
- This link is successful.

I think it must be a permission somewhere...But havent figured where yet

if i type in a browser https://IP of cas2 server/ews//ews/Services.wsdl

I get a proper response

However if i type https://IP of cas1 server/ewa/Services.wsdl

I get page cannot be displayed

After many hours of trobleshooting using MS kn articles and uninstalling/reinstalling IIS/CAS roles I was left with a scenario that I had to rebuild the server as I could not get the IIS7 role to reinstall and it was quicker to rebuild than troubleshoot any further.
The issue was deffo down to IIS and the EWS folder, but I felt I had exhausted all attempts at fixing this issue
Once I rebuilt and added the EV extensions all worked ok for me

The only thing that I can add that may have caused this issue is that when installing the EV extensions for the first time UAC for Windows 2008 was turned on and I got an error on installing. I turned this on and rebooted and the EV extensions installed correctly, but however nothing displayed in OWA. I just wonder if the error that happened when I tried to install with UAC turned on changed some permission. When I installed on my second CAS server I turned off UAC before hand and there was no issues.
