PST Locator Task failure

Running the PST Locator Task against my test Vista box I get this error. I get the same error for both hard disk and registry searches.

** 9/21/2010 2:02:32 PM Registry search failure on ISTSTK046 : The network path was not found. **

The log on account is a member of Domain Admins and PST Administrator.

Windows firewall is off.

This system had been scanned once before, successfully, but I added new a new .pst for further testing.

OK. This works fine as long as the Remote Registry service is started on the Vista Box. If I set the service to start  Automatic the Locator Task still fails.

Is the Locator Task supposed to start the service or does it need to be running ahead of time?

The default for Vista is stopped and Manual.

It definitely has to be running (manual or automatic startup doesn't matter).  The Locator task can not / will not start it up.
