Problem: ShortCut Updating -- Cannot change archive pending iem into Shorc

Here is my testing envirnoment:

WINNT 4 domain
Server: WINNT 4 SP6a and Exchange 5.5 SP4 installed
EV Server: Windows 2003 SP1 and EV6 SP2, license installed
Client Side: Outlook 2003 , user extension is installed, Exchange form was installed


Problem:
User email can be archived into vault store successfully. But the email content and attachment still retains in user mail box, the message still retains in archive pending state, user mailbox size in Exchange 5.5 keeps unchange. Do i have any things miss?

Have you backed up the vault data files? If you are using delete safety copy after backup you need to back up the dvs files before the items will switch from pending to shortcuts.

There is a section in the vault admin this.

Exchange messages stay as Archive pending. Do the following:

Check the setting of Remove safety copies from mailboxes on the Vault Store properties: General tab. If it is set to After backup then the messages do not turn into shortcuts until the vault stores have been backed up. Check that the vault store NTFS volumes are being backed up.

If your backup software does not remove the archive bit you can use a trigger file or the ATTRIB command. Both are in the help and been discussed in this forum, so you could easily do a search.

Tony's right on this one...it's a classic symptom of enabling safety copies and not doing your backups. Easy way to figure out if that's your problem...turn your safety copy setting to immediate and see if the problem resolves itself. There's a bunch of items in the forum discussing the best practices setting for safety copies, go ahead and search and see what applies to your unique environment.
