RPC/HTTP issues

I've followed the documentation to enable rpc/http access with EV 7.0sp1 (owa and rpc server extensions). I can log onto my test mailbox fine via rpc/http and also see the items that have been archived.
The problem is when I double-click on an archived email it opens with the following text above the headers:

The item was archived by EV on

A couple of suggestions. Triple check that you have entered the fqdn for the RPC/HTTP proxy server correctly and that you have not disabled any RPC/HTTP functionality in the mailbox archivining policy.

Are you using ISA? Don't forget to add /enterprisevaultproxy/* to the published paths.

Alan's right on this one...8 times outa ten, it's ISA server rules blocking you. 1 outa ten it's a weird web/traffic caching appliance (like a WAN accelerator) that needs some exclusions...and then it's environmental the rest of the time. Good luck

I'm not using an rpc/http proxy (frontend) box. My setup is backend only exchange server. Where would I be entering that fqdn for the proxy server anyways? Are you referring to when I configure the Outlook client? If so then that's been set-up correctly. I've been using rpc/http for a long time without problems.
I followed the instructions to create a proxy bybass list (evservers.txt) and saved that file on the backend exchange server (c:\program files\enterprise vault\owa). i then ran the rpc and owa config wizard on my backend exchange server. Lastly, I followed the instructions to configure my EV server for rpc/http.

Thanks

I forgot to mention, I'm not using an ISA server. Since rpc/http has been working fine for me for a long time, i'm thinking it's some EV configuration thing

It sounds like the Exchange proxy address ie. the backend Exchange server is not being passed properly to EV.

You can setup proxydiagnostics = 2 in the evbackend.ini file.
It will create a log in the OWA/Logs directory - this should give you some idea what http request is being made.

Have you setup a RPC Proxy URL in the mailbox policy - if so - you can set this to blank if you are using /enterprisevaultproxy.

also are you using the V7 SP1 client extensions?

I don't know if you have already tried this - but there is this Support article which describes the exact same situation:

Hi John,

I have this issue of RPC over HTTP. When connect using MAPI, we can access archive contents with no issue. However, when accessing the same message using RPC over HTTP, I get the error "This item was archieved by Enterprise Vault ...There was an error loading this item--some functionality may bot be available. When click on the link, get an error "Cannot contact the web server. Please try again later. Unknow error 0X135 80072EE6.

I have set proxydiagnostics = 2 in the evbackend.ini file but the logging directory is still empty after setting the entry.

We are using the V7 SP1 client extensions

Thank you

Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Do you have your Exchange web sites on default web site or not?
EV has a bit of problems with non-default sites...
