Removing the archived version of a mail, when restoring items using Web Search interface.

Hi folks,

Quikc question. We have a user that has to be removed from Enterprise Vault. We have logged into the EV application server as the EV account, and have performed a search on this users archived mailbox. Over 3000 items have been archived. We can select all the items and restore them, but this will result in all items that are currently archived been duplicated, e.g the restored item will be there alongside the archived version (this the behaviour that occured when testing on my own mailbox). Is there any method of removing the archived version, be it a reg key update, or an advanced option that I am missing somewhere. Basically we don't want to have any duplicate mails, or EV icons/archived mails in this users mailbox! Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Dave

If the old and new items are using the same Vault store partition, then SIngle instance will kick in, if not you will have two DVS files in seperate Vault stores, but only one item, in Outlook/Archive Explorer/Searches

Hi Rob!

We are using a single vault store partition, stored on a Centera etc. The files are being recalled successfully, but the archived links in the exchange mailbox are not being removed. We could get the user to highlight all his archived mails, and restore them from the Outlook client, but would much prefer if we could do this in the background.

You can use the export back to mailbox options - this will not results in duplicates (you won't have the shortcut and archived item) - unless the user has moved archived items from the original folder where they were archived , which is likely.

With your webapp restore method...once you have restored the items to the user's mailbox - you can do an advanced find in outlook, select the mailbox root and subfolders and search on message class ipm.note.enterprisevault.shortcut - this will bring back all shortcuts and you can delete them in one go.

Hope this helps
