We have a user who for no apparent reason hasn't had their mailbox archived since May.
I have tried disabling and then re-enabling the mailbox in the hope that it restarted archiving but this didnt make a difference.
Is there a way to restart the archiving process for this specific mailbox?
Many Thanks

Ok, so it turned out the user had an e-mail in her inbox which was corrupt and meant the task on her mailbox stalled. Once she removed it the archiving job ran fine.
There is a reg fix to apply to the EV server to ignore corrupt mail and carry on archiving the mailbox, detailed here- http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH78546
Thanks for all your help and patience, got there in the end!

First, do a run now against the mailbox in Report Mode. What does the report say is eligible?

In the report as well, check to see if it says that the mailbox is suspended

You can also zap the mailbox, using EVPM and then re-enable, sync and then archive.

we dont currently have Reporting enabled it seems.......looking at getting that together at the moment

Zap the mailbox?
Any more info on this process at all? Where do i find EV Policy Manager, can see it in the Console?

Got reporting up and running, which is the report to run against the mailbox?
09-13-2011 08:46 AM
Sorry, this isn't a report from Reporting:
To run an Exchange Mailbox or Public Folder task immediately
In the left pane of the Administration Console, expand the Vault Site hierarchy until the Enterprise Vault Servers container is visible.
You will want to choose your specific mailbox in the wizard

In order to remove EV properties from vault enabled mailboxes, modify the script below to match the particular DirectoryComputerName, SiteName and Mailbox DistinguishedName. Edit the file in Notepad and save in UNICODE format, with an .ini extension.
[Directory]
DirectoryComputerName = Vaultserver_that_hosts_directoryservice
Sitename = sitename_from_admin_console
[Mailbox]
DistinguishedName = /o=organization/ou=mailboxou/cn=Recipients/cn=mailboxcname
[Folder]
Name = Mailboxroot
Zap = True
Run Enterprise Vault Policy Manager (EVPM) from \Program Files\Enterprise Vault on the EV server logged on as the Vault Service Account (VSA). The syntax for EVPM follows:
EVPM [-?] [-e Exchange Server computer name ] [-m service mailbox] [-f Initialization file location and name]
Parameter |
Meaning |
-? |
Prints usage to screen |
-e |
The Exchange Server computer name |
-f |
The initialization file location and name |
-m |
The name of the Enterprise Vault service mailbox(this can be found on the settings tab of the archive task properties) |
Notes:
To find the DistinguishedName (DN), follow the steps below:
1. In the Admin Console, go to the properties of the users' archive and copy the ArchiveID listed on the Advanced tab to the clipboard
2. Hold down ctrl + shift | Right-click on Archives | Find Archives and Folders option
3. Paste the ArchiveID in the blank field and choose Find
4. The DN will be listed in the results
An alternate method for finding the DN can be done through SQL using the steps below:
1. On the SQL server where the EV database resides on, expand the EnterpriseVaultDirectory database | Tables
2. Right click on dbo.ExchangeMailboxEntry, and choose Open Table (Sql 2008, select top 200 rows)
3. Run the query below to find the user:
select * from exchangemailboxentry where mbxalias = 'users mailbox alias'
4. The LegacyMbxDN colum contains the DN that needs to be used
Additional Notes:
* If EVPM is run without any parameters, it prompts for each one.
* The mailbox that has been zapped will need to be enabled again as it will show up as "New" when running the Enable Mailbox wizard.
* Zapping a mailbox removes all customized archiving settings from the root of the mailbox and any folders within the mailbox; if EVPM has been used to apply customized archiving settings for different folders in user mailboxes, those settings will need to be re-applied via EVPM again after zapping the mailbox using the above method
Once the Hidden Message is Deleted you can re-enable the mailbox for archiving..
Also check if you are getting any events for this maibox..
Is the user is able to see Enterprise Vault Icons in the Toolbar, If yes try to maually archive a particular item and confirm whether that works or not..

That isn't the report that I was talking about. The report file should be in the Reports\Exchange Mailbox Archiving
subfolder of the Enterprise Vault installation folder (normally ***\Enterprise Vault\Reports\Exchange Mailbox Archiving
).
The file name is as follows: EV_ARCHIVING_exchangeserver_yyyymmddhhmmss.TXT
where exchangeserver
is the Exchange Server that is associated with the task and yyyymmddhhmmss
is the date and time when the report was generated.
More information about the report can be found here: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO37063

okay, now do the run now again in normal mode, let it complete. You can monitor the A3 queue in MSMQ. Then run the report mode again.

So the next thing would be to run a dtrace whilst doing a run now against that mailbox?
09-16-2011 05:56 AM
Ok thats done.......pretty huge output! 17,879 pages in MS word!
Which part should i copy into here?
09-16-2011 06:05 AM
Did you just do the run now against the one mailbox?
How large is it if you zip it up?
