Unable to retrieve an item from Centera...

We are having the following error for several (on the order of hundreds or maybe even thousands) when trying to retrieve items from the Centera through several different mediums.  (i.e.. simple exports using the EV export wizard.  Exports using DA.  Exports using a third party tool called Archive Accelerator Export.)  When exporting archives, a majority of the items will export successfully, but a handful will be "unable to retrieve".  This does not happen for every export we do, but it does happen often.  I've done my own investigating using the EVCenteraChecker utility

Using DA, one of our users performed a searched and attempted to export the search.  6 items could not export.  From the export report, I retrieved the Saveset ID and found the ClipID in the vault store database.  I used the EVCenteraChecker to try to retrieve the item and got the error message below.  Also using the EVCenteraChecker utility, I checked to see if my clip exists, and the utility said that the clip DOES NOT exist on either the primary or replica Centera.  Someone please give me the great news that the item has not been lost forever and that something is just configured incorrectly.

Here is an example of the error when trying to retrieve through CenteraChecker:

Error opening EMC Centera C-Clip

Here is an example of the error when trying to retrieve through DA and other export mediums:

I would strongly advise you to log a support case with EMC. The error you mention infers that the clip is missing...

maybe this is an orphan saveset.

If so you will need to do a validation between whats in your vault stores against whats in your Centera.

Depending on how big your stores are this can take some time

We had to do it and it took us 4 months of running the tools to clean out all the orphans
