"Cound not show this item - This item cannot be displayed" error.

Hello,

I have one user who receives the pop-up error "Cound not show this item. Please try again; if it still fails, contact your Enterprise Vault administrator.   This item cannot be displayed.    Additional information:" followed by lots of little squares when they try to open an item in the Archive Explorer.

I suppose it's a client issue because his secretary also has access to his vault and she can open the same item on her PC without problems. Plus the event viewer on the EV server doesn't even log the issue. No other user has reported the problem so far.

Can anyone suggest what to look for please?

We're using EV8 latest SP and all users have Outlook 2003 SP3.

Thanks,

- Alan.

OK so how are you opening Archive Explorer? Via outlook or via internet explorer?
If you open up IE and go to http://yourVaultServer/EnterpriseVault/ArchiveExplorerui.asp , does it show correctly?
Does he use Offline Vault or Vault Cache at all?

Are the client and server both EV8 SP5?
Has this ever worked for him at all?

Do items open up via Search.asp? what about regular shortcuts? or is it just limited to opening items in Archive Explorer?

you could try just a quick ResetEVClient.exe , which might fix it

Opens AE via the button in Outlook toolbar.

The problem only started today.

No cached mode in Outlook and no vault cache.

Client is SP3, server is SP5.

He doesn't have a shortcut for this item so can't check.

I'll try the reset and other shortcuts when I can get at his PC ...

Thanks!

It worked after a PC reboot so I guess Resetevclient would have sorted it too.

some bedtime reading :) - handy to know what these tools do and it's a good one to try first for client issues as JW2 mentioned, http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO38063
