NBU appliance backup notification change sender email

jeorainc

Hello everyone,

I have setup an appliance 5230 recently, with server send mail configured under universal settings.

But the sender is root@linux.local, which I would like to change it to <hostname>@<domain>.com

Can anyone advise how to do so?

Thanks a lot!

I asked TSE for help and the answer is NO... the sender cannot be changed.
"We donot have an option to change the sender email ID for the email notifications recieved for backup jobs."

Some supplement:

I am using NBU 5230 appliance. Version is 2.6.0.1.

An output for the backup notification. The sender is root <root@linux.local> which I don't know how to change it.

This is a yast issue that has been seen before - worth logging a call with symantec to get the change made correctly - see the solution on this thread:

I am sorry but it seems that the link given is not relevant to my issue..

But it is... from the marked solution:

The appliance configured as just a media server was resolving its own local hostname impoperly. When you issued commands to show hostname all was correct, but during the beginning stages of the upgrade the logs showed it registered as "linux" which is a yast default.

We manually updated the host file and issued a command ( cp -avf /usr/share/YaST2/control/control.xml /control.xml yast2 clone_system) to verify the change took and then attempted the upgrade.

The yast default sometimes is not set correctly and although your have named your appliance it sends mail from the yasy name of linux and using root

This overrides the setting set in the CLISH /GUI

If you get the yast name corrected you e-mail settings should start to work correctly

Try this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH204730

Thx but this is for the appliance alert only. For backup job alert it wont help

I think I am not technical enough to know the issue.. I would better call Symantec support Will keep you posted. Thx

That is what i suggested - it should be that simple command line but as you are digging into Yast it is better to get support to run the command for you and confimr that is the issue in the first place - pretty sure it is though

Do keep us updated

You have posted in Appliance forum, asking about 5230 Appliance, right?

The above applies to NBU notifications as well on the Appliance.

This is what Catalog backup email looks like on our in-house demo unit:

Thank you. I have setup the above. On 2.6 it should be under settings -> alerts -> email
However, the notifications for backup is still root@linux.local.

I guess there is some problem with my appliance. Now pending TSE to help. Thanks for your comment.
