Auto Generate Media ID

The problem exist since yesterday. Everytime I update Inventory Robot, the system will auto generate A0000x even though there is no physical tape inside the tape drive.
The "x" number will keep increasing each time I do the inventory update.
Can anybody help me coz I don't want to keep deleting auto generating media id.
Thank you.

Re: Auto Generate Media ID

Hi,
Your's is a standalone environment ?
WHen you insert tape in the drive what doyou see in the device monitor Under the columns "Extrernal Media ID" "Recorded Media ID" ?
If you are getting the value as A0000X under these columns then change the label of the media in the drive by the command
bplabel -m -d
(Note :- any backups on the media will be lost)

If i am not wrong the ID couldn't be autogenerated unless there is no physical tape in the drive. The id is autogenerated if there is no ID assigned to the media.

I hope i got your question right

Re: Auto Generate Media ID

Is there any tape not labeled with barcode in your tape libary? Or if labeled, tape library sometimes recognize as unlabeled. Check LCD, or output of "vmcheckxxx -rh -rt -rn ".

Re: Auto Generate Media ID

Hi,
Are you having a Tape Library Unit or Standalone drive ?
If you have a Tape library then is it having bar-code reader ?

Re: Auto Generate Media ID

thanks for the reply.
i'm having tape library unit with a bar-code reader. all this while, everything work fine. that's why i don't u/stand, why the system always generate A0000x+1 for the slot which is no physical tape inside that slot.
Eg. Slot1 to 6 - there is a tapes.
Slot 7 - no physical tape.
when I update the inv. robot, then A0000x+1 will logically assigned to Slot7.
and one more thing, it only happen on Netbackup pool.

Re: Auto Generate Media ID

Strange!!! This need not happen.
If there is no tape in the slot then NB should not generate a media-ID

What happens if you insert a tape in the slot7 ?

Re: Auto Generate Media ID

then A0000x+1 will be generated for the Slot8. funny isn't it?
