Backing up Oracle RAC in Netbackup 6.5.5

Environment:

Media server     Windows 2003 R2, Standard x64 edition, SP2

                               Netbackup 6.5.5

Oracle Client      Netbackup 6.5.5

                                AIX 6.1

                                Oracle 11gR2

I’ve obtained “Best practice guide for protecting Oracle RAC with Netbackup” dated 29th July 2009.    There are some questions circulating between the backup admin and oracle dba’s regarding which is the best method for configuring client name in the Oracle backup policy (policy type = oracle)?

Question:
How should the oracle client be identified in the Oracle backup policy?

I (backup admin) thought of using method described in Best practice guide -3.1 Failover VIP name exists, backup is not load balanced  (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/resources/sites/BUSINESS/content/staging/TECHNICAL_SOLUTION...).   However the DBA states that this is out-dated and will not work with Oracle 11gR2.   DBA stated using the hostname of the each node or the scan IP.   If node hostname are used, there will be a manual process of reconfiguring the Oracle policy in the event of a node failover, correct?

Also, I’ve stumble onto the EEB (emergency engineering binary) patch for Oracle clients but haven’t tested yet to see if patch need to be applied or not.    Article ID TECH125468 states not to apply unless RMAN fails with RMAN-10038.

All input and ideals are greatly appreciated.

I'm not so falmiliar with Oracle, but I googled and found a document published by Oracle in Japanese that mentioned configuring SCAN VIP in failover configuration. Using SCAN failover VIP will be easiest way.

*** EDIT ***

I found the same document in English.

According to  the sction "SCAN CONFIGURATION IN THE CLUSTER", SCAN does not eliminate the failover VIP.

Without ET1940073, NetBackup 6.5.5 does not cooperate with Oracle 11g R2.

You have to apply ET1940073 to 6.5.5, or apply 6.5.6. After upgrading 6.5.6, you don't have to apply EEB in addition.

Thanks for the information....  Greatly appreciated.   I couldn't find the 6.5.6 client AIX software for download.   I've got the 6.5.6 for media server in case I needed it.  Do you have link AIX client 6.5.6?   I did a search for NB_CLT_6.5.6 with no luck...

I found the link  http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH129328

There are no AIX specific package.

To install 6.5.6 Oracle Agent, install 6.5 DB agent from CD/DVD media or downloaded images, and apply NB_CLT_6.5.6, NB_JAV_6.5.6 and NB_ORA_6.5.6. Make sure you have to apply 6.5.6 to your master server.
