Backup Running SLOW (Netbackup 6.5.4)

Hi,

Master Server OS: Solaris 10 (NBU 6.5.4)

Media Server OS : Solaris 10 (NBU 6.5.4)

Client OS : WIndows 2003 SP2

The backup of filer is run via proxy windows server. Whenever backup triggers bpstart_notify script run and maps the Filer volume to windows proxy server and whenever backup is finished the the filer volume is unmapped. Few of  volume backups are running very slow at 40 KBPS or 7 KBPs (almost dead).

The filers do not have any dedicated drive hence local NDMP backups cannot be used.

Please help me how to improve performance

You can share the drives using SSO, you don't need dedicated drives. Do you have a NDMP license, then you can use remote NDMP (if you don't want to share the drives as previously suggested).

Going through a windows proxy server for a filer, I would expect it to be slow this way.

You don't need a dedicated drive in the NDMP filer to run NDMP-type backup, configure a media server that is connected to the filer and you can do a 3-way NDMP backup, check out the NDMP admin guide for further details.
