I am having a client whose backup is failing with error code 58. Client is linux client. I am getting this issue from last two days only.
bptestbpcd result Error code 25(Cannot connect to socket)
telnet 13782 is also failing
bpclntcmd -ip <client IP> results OK which defines name resolution is Ok
I donot have access to the Linux client but i am sure that client is UP and running.
Kindly suggest as what could be the reason for its failure.

Please check with you system admin or network admin to check the firewall, do telnet and port query on 1556 and tell them that you are not able to connect. Ask them to open that port to get the connection going

please post bptestbpcd -client -debug and bpcd logs from the client to troubleshoot.
Also check if it is failing bptestbpcd from one media server or from all the media and master servers.
do the nslookup from master/medai to client and vice versa using the name and ip and post the output
Can you do the bpclntcmd from client to master/media?
Is any thing changed recently? Any firewall on linux client.
what version of NBU/OS ?

hello,
For these similar problems, we could try the following steps to troubleshoot.
1. Check Windows Firewall is turned off, or make sure the relevant nbu ports is not blocked.
2. Check forward and reverse lookup works fine between master/media/client.
3. Using "bpclntcmd" command to verify name resolution for nbu systems.
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH27430
4. Using "bptestbpcd" command to test client connections.
Please create bpcd log folder on the client under /usr/openv/netbackup/logs
Run bptestbpcd again on master:
bptestbpcd -client -debug -verbose
http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO43696
5. If any changes to hostname/IP/DNS, using the following command to clear cache.
bpclntcmd -clear_host_cache
Thanks

NBU 7.6 will attempt connection on port 1556.
Check that firewall is open in both directions.
If no firewall, check that OS firewall on client is stopped and disabled. On Linux that will be iptables.

Get hold of the linux administrator, get verification that client is up and running, get the bpcd log created on the client, run bptestbpcd again, get the resulting bpcd log file, also ask if anything was changed on the client two days ago.

Connectivity failure is from master server and other media servers as well.
nslookup result is Ok.
Two days before these servers were patched i beleive this would be the reason for the failure.
