Backup for the Shadow Copy Components:\ are failing with 71

Hello Friends,

Backup for the Shadow Copy Components:\ are failing with 71 but file systems are getting backed up sucessfully.

Could you please let me know, how do i troubleshoot in this regard?

Does it work with NTBackup ?

Any entries in EventViewer ?

Any errors in the output of the following Windows commands ?

vssadmin list writers
vssadmin list providers

Have you tried/is it possible to re-boot the affected client(s) ?

We have had this (& similar) issues with Shadow Copy Components in the past & found that this resolved the issue in our case.

As per your suggestion i'd look at Volume Shadow Copy services on the client and found that  it was disabled.

So i enabled it and refired the job which is in progress now.

Hope it gets completed sucessfully.

I enabled the Volume Shadow Coy services, but the backup for Shadow Copy component is still failing with 71.

We have the exact same problem. Veritas/Symantec's response is to upgrade to 2003SP2, at the moment we are only at 2003 no SP, which is unsupported. We are unable to upgrade at the moment so I don't know if it will fix it or not.
