Backup the ESXi contents and its configuration

Mokded
Level 1

We need to backup the ESXi contents and its configuration so in case of pb we can re-install from scratch a new one from the backups?

The ESXi server (free version currently) hosts

  • several windows machines used as "windows master images"
  • a windows server used as a software and patch repository
  • a Dell Kace K2000 Appliance

NetBackup can backup and restore the VMs on an ESX server, not the ESX/ESXi server itself.

Please have a look at these docs:

Statement of Support for NetBackup 7.x in a Virtual Environment: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000006177

NetBackup for VMware Administrator's Guide

PS:

I have modified your subject as this discussion does not seem to be related to the 'NetBackup 7.6 Blueprints - Netbackup Catalog' blog: https://vox.veritas.com/t5/Articles/NetBackup-7-6-Blueprints-Netbackup-Catalog/ta-p/808872

Know there has been a command in vmware to backup the configuration on the ESX systems. Think you will have to look on the vmware site to find the same command for ESXi if it exists.

The standard questions: Have you checked: 1) What has changed. 2) The manual 3) If there are any tech notes or VOX posts regarding the issue
